It is fascinating to see the way movies have had an impact on the game of Texas Holdem poker. Everyone always talks about how the internet has created this massive boom in gambling and card games and while that is true, we shouldn’t forget just what a slick film can do for the popularity of anything, including poker. With that said, the games themselves can have an impact on movies as well, it’s an interesting give and take when you think about it.
Take the latest Casino Royale for example. In the original story the game the plot was centered around was baccarat but in the 2006 version they switched that game out for Texas Holdem poker. They did this because poker is something that had had a resurgence of popularity but by having it in such a widely screened film, the popularity soared even higher!
There is definitely a link between the glitz and glam seen on screen and the want people feel to play the game. It makes us feel like we are part of a bigger, more luxurious lifestyle and what’s the harm in that? We all deserve a little thrill right?
